What are the key ingredients for your cycling holiday?
Before we introduce the different ways you can explore our cycling holidays to find your ideal trip, there are a few things to ask yourself…
Do you prefer to keep things relaxed or are you looking to challenge yourself? Would you like to push your riding skills or try something new? Have you got a specific destination or well-known route in mind?Perhaps you’re looking for something adventurous or maybe you want to prioritise more cultural and culinary experiences? Are you looking to travel alone or with friends or family? When would you like to go away?
Everyone is different but everyone pedals so we’re here to help you work out what your perfect cycling trip looks like. It’s a balancing act and it’s our job to make sure you find the perfect tour for you.
Aside from incredible cycling, which goes without saying, there are a few essential ingredients that we think go into making the perfect tour, and remember, we’ve been refining this recipe for almost 30 years! All our cycling tours include 24/7 support, quality accommodation, navigation information, optional bike hire, luggage transfers and so much more – leaving you to kick back and enjoy the pedallin’.
Holidays that move you
If you’ve never been on a Skedaddle cycling trip before then you’re in for a treat. There’s no better feeling than spinning the wheels as you soak in the sights and sounds of somewhere new, working up an appetite for all the delicious food you’ll try along the way, and relaxing with a cold drink at the end of a day. Life feels wonderfully simple on a cycling tour and our carefully crafted routes, led by local experts, are designed to make sure everyone has an incredible time.
1. Choose your type of cycling…
Cycling comes in many flavours and there is nothing to say you can’t pick and mix! There are so many different ways of enjoying riding your bike – it would be a shame to miss out on any of them. Whether you want some smooth tarmac under your wheels, quite country lanes or a flowing singletrack, here’s a quick rundown of all types of cycling we categorise our holidays into…
2. Find your cycling grade: terrain, skill, fitness
Making sure you’re on a trip of the right grade, will ensure the routes match your fitness and expectations, so you can make the most of the cycling opportunities on the day.
Our team of experts carefully grade every trip, and each type of cycling has its very own specific grading system that includes a variety of factors. We do this to make sure you can compare similar trips on a relevant scale. You can familiarise yourself with the description of each grade and see what feels right to you, and our friendly team is also always here to help if you have any questions. Each tour also includes a description of each day’s riding and route profiles to help you while you look for your perfect ride.
3. Go self-guided or join a guided group tour
Now is the time to decide who you are going with! Of course, you can bring whoever you like with you, but with us you do have an option of choosing between self-guided or guided (and supported) group tours. If you choose to go guided or supported you will be accompanied by our lovely guides and a group of likeminded Skedaddlers. Our group tours are also a popular choice for solo travellers. In addition, our guided and supported trips come with a support vehicle that provide snacks, lunches, carries your luggage and can even be a place to rest if needed. And if you decide to go self-guided, it will be you and your party, but don’t worry – all the support is still there for you! After sending you off on your way with detailed route notes, maps and directions, we’ll transfer your luggage (and souvenirs!) allowing you to go at your own pace.
Should I join a small group tour or go self-guided?4. Decide for how long you want to go away…
Whether it’s a relaxing weekend away or something a little longer, there’s something for everyone!
If you are short on time or want to give it a try first, our shorter trips in the UK are perfect for a thrilling break.
For that ultimate holiday feeling, we recommend going for a week or longer. Our holidays in Europe, further afield and longer trips in the UK – are all designed in a way that makes sure you have enough time to enjoy the place and unwind properly without a rush. It’s also better for our planet to take one loner holiday abroad rather than making multiple trips, especially if you’re flying.
Exploring further afield in more remote destinations, we prefer to go for a little bit longer so you have enough time to truly immerse yourself in the destination, and that’s what our Cycling Adventures are all about!
And for an ultimate feeling of achievement, you can’t go wrong with our Iconic Journeys that explore the entire length of a country – traversing the UK, France, Italy and Spain.
5. Destinations: where to go on a cycling holiday?
Now to probably the most exciting part! Where do you want to go?

Maybe you fancy the rolling hills of Tuscany, a volcano powered ride in Chile or vast and wild landscapes of Spain – with over 30 countries to choose from on five continents, you’re spoiled for choice!
