Skedaddle Twaddle is the blog site for the customers, guides and staff of Saddle Skedaddle, who can contribute as much ‘twaddle’ as they wish. Editorial control is limited, so the views, opinions and general twaddle expressed here are not necessarily those of Saddle Skedaddle, though we probably agree, or at least would do in exchange for a beer!
Do feel free to add your comments whether, constructive, funny or sarcastic and if you have an amazing holiday story, that you’d like to share with fellow Skedaddlers then email us on marketing@skedaddle.com/uk or fran@skedaddle.com/uk.
Saddle Skedaddle was started many years ago in a galaxy far, far away. Two itinerants (Andrew and Paul…who are now the Big Cheeses at Skedaddle) exploring the wilds of South America got stuck in a two man tent in a snow storm in the Chilean Andes at 4,500 metres. With a whole day to talk about life, loves and the universe the conversation inevitably came around to what they were going to do when the money ran out. Doing this cycling travel thing for a living sounded like fun! A couple of weeks later after crossing the Atacama desert our intrepid duo cycled into the coastal city of Iquique only to be chased down the street by what seemed to be a crazy Chilean shouting ‘Hey Gringos, hey rubios’. Actually Sergio is only mildly crazy, runs a bike shop, the local bike club and is still Skedaddle’s principle guide in Chile. Bumping into Sergio cemented the cycling holiday idea.
About a year later back in the UK, our duo had booked a stand at an exhibition so as to tell everyone / anyone who would listen about why they should join then in South America on a biking holiday. There was however one small problem, no company name. A drunken weekend on the Northumberland coast with friends and some of the finest brains (or at least prior to the years of alcohol abuse!) in the universe, resulted in company being named Saddle Skedaddle…pity no one can remember who said it!!??
And it’s just gone on from there…..
